Demonstrations

Watch and learn how to make Matcha tea similar to how they would during a Japanese Tea Ceremony.  Sushi chef, Mayumi, of nearly 20 years will also be there demonstrating her sushi making techniques.  Learn some ikebana techniques as well as how to wear a kimono.  

Activities

Pocky decorating was by far one of the more popular activities from last year.  Calligraphy and more Japanese puzzles and games will be added to this year’s fun.  Kaleidoscope, map puzzle, card memory game, and juggling have will be welcome new additions too.  And don’t forget about Face painting, photo booth area, and karaoke.  

Contests

Try to beat the best time for the chopstick game.  Complete all 4 stages of the classic Japanese version cup/ball game called kendama.  Wear your favorite Japanese attire as judging will ongoing throughout the day for various costume awards.

Special Guests

Dr. Bryan Bott from Adrian College will be speaking at 2pm about the growing cross cultural exchange between Japan and America.  Stephen Scott will be talking about visiting Hiroshima for the average Joe.  B. Petush, local editorial cartoonist and comic book writer will be there demonstrating and talking about his Japanese Comic Book.  He will also be signing his 2nd volume comic book as it will be release for the first time at the festival.
